Terrible August 25, 2010 Dell Burner (Gilroy, CA) Renaissance Man's review was spot on. They were filthy, stuck together, my 84 year old aunt couldn't break them up
apart.
Filthy July 21, 2010 Renaissance Man (Glen Oaks, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These were the dirtiest, filthiest, silt-ridden oysters I have ever bought in my life. Even after scrubbing, it was almost impossible to open the oysters without getting silt inside. So many of the oysters were stuck together, and they were so barnacle encrusted it made shucking VERY difficult. I spoke to the owner Ron before ordering, and since he had been so nice on the phone, I called him to tell him of my experience and he offered to make amends when I told him that I wanted to buy some shucked oysters. But instead of $20 with free shipping, Amazon's price is now $25 plus $22 shipping. Wow!
Buy oysters at your local fish market or supermarket where you can pick out your own. I would never buy from this vendor again.
Fast Shipping but... December 28, 2009 Akihito Araki (Chicago, IL USA) I had way too many too small pieces that I ended up not eating. I don't think they are ready and should have been left alone until they grew up. I have been looking for decent Oyster for some time now, beating the Sunday branch at one of the Casino near by and this one wasn't good enough. It's better than up scale seafood restaurant near by but wasn't worth it. Nice packaging though. Maybe I just had bad luck but I don't intend to find out...
Fresh Oysters magically appear in the middle of the farm belt! December 23, 2009 JK (Monroe, NY United States) 20lbs showed up, packed in styrafoam cooler with plenty of gel/ice packs as promised.
Only 1 dud iA the lot, and he may just have been unmotivated... (very good percentage !)
Flavor was good, both raw and fried (with cornmeal in a shallow pan).
Amazon Prime Shipping made it quite a good deal!
Next time I think I need about twice as many..
Questionable value December 13, 2009 Barney C. Kelleher (Long Beach, Ca) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this item based on a customer review indicating they received approx. 100 oysters. My 20 pound box contained 56 oysters. At $59.00 and free shipping, 100 oysters is a great deal. At 56 pieces, regardless of size, my per piece cost went out the window and suddenly, this is not a good deal. Suggest you buy oysters on a "count" rather than weight basis. I now realize this is the only time I bought oysters this way. I've bought gulf oysters at 100 count per box and 150 count per box. Locally, I buy Pacific oysters at $.67 per piece. These are from Washington state and Vancouver, B.C.. That is a per piece, retail price. Select and bag yourself at a local fish market. Also, the shipment contained no "Harvest Tag". I believe this is a federal requirement. In the event you become ill, the source of the oysters can be traced. Won't buy again.
